Countdown begins as women’s professional golf tees off at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club from 1-4 November
It is only four weeks to go until the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open (FBMLO) gets underway at the iconic Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi. Held for the second year under the patronage of the Mother of the Nation, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, this year’s four-day tournament will take place from Wednesday 1st November through to Saturday 4th November.
Community focus is core to FBMLO and that is why tickets to this year’s tournament are free every single day, for all spectators! With plenty of on-site family-friendly activities to choose from this year’s tournament promises to offer something for everyone. For golf fans alone there will be plenty to whet the appetite with the top ladies golfers in action, with 126 of the best female golfers in the world competing for a total prize purse of $550,000.
H.E. Aref Al Awani, General Secretary at Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), said: “The FBMLO continues to feature on the global agenda as not only one of the most important stages for female golfers, but also underlines Abu Dhabi’s position as a global sports destination.”
Aside from the golf, visitors can enjoy this staple family event of the Abu Dhabi sports calendar in style and comfort through a range entertaining activities. Visitors can take on the family on the FBMLO crazy golf course, get involved with cricket sessions from Abu Dhabi Cricket, and enjoy introductions to street golf and rugby for kids and adults from HSBC Future Falcons. Try your hand at a regional first – where Van Gogh meets golf – in ‘Paint Golf’, get active with family-friendly work-outs from Troon Fit, chill out in the Etihad global lounge, or feast on a range of food trucks, with plenty of heathy options and also the odd well-deserved treat.
The Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy (FBMA) partners with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) to oversee the tournament and ensure that sports, including golf, become embedded in local culture. The importance of having a family focused offering at this year’s tournament further highlights FBMA’s strategic vision towards youth, as described by Dr. Mai Al Jaber, Board Member of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Academy. “I believe that by making the tournament so enticing for families to attend, the next generation of young girls can be inspired to take up the game. Introducing youth to sports in a fun and exciting environment often yields further interest and encourages long-term participation from a young age,” Dr. Al Jaber added.
The Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open is free for the public to attend and runs from Wednesday, 1st November to Saturday, 4th November, 2017 at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club.
The FBMLO is sponsored by: FBMA, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, TDIC, Al Masaood, Etihad Airways and Marriott Downtown Abu Dhabi.
